Pine Hills Nature Preserve, near Deer Mill, Indiana and next to Shades State Park, is a lesser known gem in the Indiana State Park system. At only 480 small acres, in nonetheless has unique features not commonly associated with the state of Indiana. Hemlock groves and white pine trees, more commonly found in Canada are on display here, as well as interesting geological formations found on Honeycomb Rock. Be careful on the Devil’s Backbone, it is only 6 feet wide with a 100 foot drop off on either side.
